The Reekie Linn

Not far from the cosy village of Lintrathen and its Loch counterpart, the river Isla flows. Along it, near where the river and loch are closest, a steep-sided gorge hides in the woodland. Unknowing, the water powers on over the edge into the gorge creating one of Scotland's most impressive waterfalls: The Reekie Linn. A small car park can be found just by the bridge over the river, and from there a path leads along the edge of the gorge through the forest. This path offers a good view of the falls at some intervals, but line of sight is mostly obscured by trees. A lesser-known path leads down to the rocky banks and tiny pebble beach at the bottom of the gorge. After cautiously climbing down, I discovered there was much more choice of composition from below; I could capture the imposing size of the falls and hear the thunderous noise of water cascading down the rocks as I did so.
