Several miles northwest of Edzell lies the longest of the Angus glens: Glenesk. Continuing along the winding, scenic road will take you to a small carpark by Lochlee Parish Church. This is a base for many of the walks on offer nearby. There are two popular routes: one takes you past the Queen's well and up to the most easterly munro, Mount Keen, and the other takes you past Invermark Castle and Loch Lee all the way to the powerful Falls of Unich. I haven't been up the Mount Keen way before but have visited the Falls of Unich a few times. The walk along the edge of loch Lee is stunning and the old boathouses and small sheds can work well as a focal point, especially in moody, atmospheric shots. Not long after the Falls themself come into view, the path can get a bit marshy and a small burn leading to the main river will cross your path. It isn't particularly wide or deep so you should be able to find a point to jump across without too much trouble, but it's a good idea to have suitable footwear or you might lose a shoe (as I almost have). The Falls of Unich is an impressive sight and a very good candidate for both long and short shutter photography. Just make sure you have something to wipe your lens with as it gives off quite a spray.
