Road cycling is something I took up in 2020, around the time that COVID reached the UK. Since travel was largely restricted and everything was closed, I would spend my summer cycling around the local area. While cycling I would often find small compositions or picturesque areas that I would mentally take note of and return to later with my camera. Cortachy is almost unavoidable when going to the local glens and as a result of that, I passed through it many times. In the village itself there is a walk that goes along the edge of River South Esk, the river that runs past the privately owned Cortachy Castle. Not too far from the village is Prosen Water, which eventually joins South Esk, but is mostly inaccessible apart from at a few specific points. The two rivers run through a forested area and Cortachy castle can be seen from some sides through the trees, so there are compositions to be found if you look hard enough.
